The HISTORY of Alpine
Alpine Angus was established in 1998. 2004 saw our first on-farm bull and f
emale sale at Rosewhite. In March 2008, we conducted our fifth annual on-farm bull and female sale at the Rosewhite on-farm sale complex. Like the first on-farm sale which saw the top bull, Alpine Extra Special, reach $16,000, the 2008 sale was very successful, seeing the top price of $20,000 achieved for Alpine Bradman, CGKB31, a Papa Equator son. This infusion of Alpine Angus genetics into other stud herds, both established and emerging, reflects the strength of the Alpine Angus herd, its genetic diversity and its marketability. However, the key to the Alpine Angus’ success is the continued and loyal support of commercial breeders, particularly those in north east Victoria, in the mountains, into southern New South Wales, western Victoria, South Australia and Western Australia.
At Alpine Angus, we are not shy to share our genetics with others. In 2008, to celebrate the tenth anniversary of Alpine Angus, 20 elite females, many of whom were joined to or had calves at foot by current leading sires owned and in use by Alpine Angus, were sold to buyers both near and far. We are confident that those who purchase our females will know we are keen to share our genetic diversity and success with others in the breed.
